Our Story

TreeSong has its beginning in three generations of tree care.
Ryan Woofenden, owner and founder, grew up helping his father with the family business on Guemes Island. His Father first got introduced to tree care by his father in law, who when he wasn't teaching English at university, worked as a Tree Surgeon, as they called it back in those days. TreeSong Arborist Services has roots deep roots, which is a good thing when you realize that many of the trees around you are hundreds of years old.

Tree care is as much an art as a science where perspective and experience often makes the difference between preserving and maintaining trees, or loosing one of our greatest allies to a healthy life and planet. Quality tree care is about experience and perspective and the perspective we bring at TreeSong Arborist Services is that humans and nature can, through thoughtful observant action, care for the environment and ecology around us.
Our experience spans nearly a decade and a half working with a variety of talented arborists with an ethic of stewardship of the trees we have the honor of caring for. We look carefully at the whole system of the tree and its environment, and our whole system of how we do business, and seek out solutions that leave the planet more habitable for those that will follow in our footsteps.

We're real sticklers for safety. It's easy to take shortcuts, get sloppy, and "hope for the best" in profession that is as demanding and high stakes as tree care, and we are uncompromising in our dedication to safe, and professional tree care. Safe for us, safe for you, and safe for the trees. We're also pragmatic, and as much as we love trees, we also know that everything has a life cycle and when it's time for a tree to go, we do our best to recycle and up-cycle it to let it continue to live and offer benefit and beauty. Humans have relied on trees for millennia, and we aim to continue that relationship with pragmatism and respect. Science shows us that trees are cooperative and know how to live in harmonious relationship with each other and their ecosystem, we seek to learn to sing this song of life from the trees.

Who you'll be working with

Ryan Woofenden

Founder, Owner, Lead Arborist

Ryan is a third generation arborist, and has spent the last decade and a half working in the tree care industry. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State, he's spent much of his career working in the towering Douglas-fir, Western Redcedar, and bigleaf maple. He studied botany and forestry at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, where he received a BA in Human Ecology. He has held an ISA Certified Arborist credential, as well as a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

He has a wide and varied set of skills and interests beyond tree care. He's an avid sailor, lover of traditional wooden boats, and he holds a USCG boat captain Master License.
He recently discovered his love for surfing, and makes regular trips to the many outstanding surf spots in WA, OR and BC, and occasionally further afield.
When there aren't waves or wind, he's likely to be cutting Japanese joinery, or turning wooden bowls.
He enjoys singing, is a modest mandolin player, and an occasional fiddler. You might just hear some songs from the top of the tree.
